I have the 24 which is very similar but no longer being produced. They’re very affordable and very well made. If you’re looking to buy a pad controller, I recommend the Akai MPD26 below. He is seriously one of my favorite “drummers” right now. If you’ve never seen Jeremy Ellis play pads, it is truly a sight to behold. Even if you already play, there’s some great techniques shown in Jeremy’s vids. If you’re just getting started playing pads, these videos can be of great help. I mixed it all in Mixbus, but still edited the video in Windows, Vegas Movie Studio. I just wanted to produce this whole track within Linux. I don’t have anything against Ableton, it’s great software. Using a soundfont gives me nearly as much control, and in some ways more than Ableton’s drum rack.

I finally figured out how to create a soundfont from samples I cut up myself and using fluid synth as a means to play them. I’ve had the idea of making a song on the Akai MPD24 and playing drums to it, but was stuck with how to use the MPD with Linux. See you have abelton.you should just get an apc if you plan on using it to play live.This is a type of track I’ve wanted to do for a while. great piece of a gear for the fraction of an mpc. you have to manually map the pads/faders in FL, save presets/templates, and also create a custom template on the mpd so you only have to map things once. i know that's the case for FL 'll work out of the box, but the pads won't be transposed correctly for fpc. also there may be no built in presets for your daw across the whole mpd series. depending on your daw, with the 24, i know the mmc controls may not work. i picked up a brand new one on ebay for just a little over $200. aside from fewer sliders, the 26 also doesn't have the slider banks, which doubles the 8 to 16.good for mixing in your daw. you can open it up and layer some electrical tape on the pad sensors or get pad corx to make them more sensitive and responsive. you really got to hit them hard even with the threshold settings at most sensitive. only complaint is the pads aren't as great as a real mpc like stated.
